We moved our pharmacy…here’s what I learned

If you’ve had the pleasure of moving, you know how many things go into making it happen: the packing, the planning, the logistics. Now, add in a few Board of Pharmacy regulations and some FDA Clinical Trials requirements and you have what it takes to move an investigational drug service pharmacy. This was the task at hand for us recently which required several planning meetings as well as coordinating with multiple teams from IT to architects to electricians in order to make it happen! During the process I learned a few lessons:

  • Nothing is set in stone: During a large project like this, logistics will change. You will have updated blueprints, last minute changes, and possibly a few things that need to be wrapped up after the move…and that’s okay.

  • There’s a lot of logistics required to move a pharmacy: I knew this already, but pharmacy is highly regulated field which adds to the logistical considerations of a move. There is handling the medications, temperature monitoring, IT set ups, security, and more. It’s important to have several team members look at the plans to move from different angles in order to prevent missing details that need to be reviewed before the move.

  • Adding something fun makes it better: As you can see in the vlog, our team ordered Halloween badge buddies and got to wear our favorites on move day.

Sierra Richard, PharmD, BCPPS

I’m an investigational drug service clinical pharmacist specialist, a board certified pediatric pharmacy specialist, and a pharmacy preceptor, but I’m also a content creator, a wife, a cat and bird momma, and multi-passionate human being! (seriously, ask me about the geysers of Yellowstone or how NASA is sending humans back to the moon!)

I discovered that pharmacy could give me a lot in life, but it couldn’t give me a happy life on its own so I created a life I love and I am helping you do the same.
